Communities that participate in the Tree City USA program demonstrate a commitment to caring for and managing their public trees. The National Arbor Day Foundation has recognized Muskego as a Tree City USA since 1999.
This program helps our residents feel good about living and working in Muskego, as our trees are an important part of life in the community. The community is developing a strong appreciation for their trees which is leading to more engaged and better cared for trees on private property.
To qualify for this recognition, Muskego meets four established standards for its tree management, including:
Tree board or department
Tree care ordinance
Community forestry program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita
Arbor Day observance and proclamation
Each year the significance of trees is celebrated on Arbor Day - the last Friday in April. Citizens are encouraged to reflect on the value and importance of trees anytime, but particularly on Arbor Day!
