In the spring of 2003, the Muskego Police Department sponsored a Law Enforcement Youth Education Program which is now sponsored through Public Safety Cadets. The program is open to men and women ages 14 to 20 who have an interest in law enforcement. The intent of Public Safety Cadets is to educate and involve youth in police operations and involve them in service to their community.
Cadet Unit #128 (so named in honor of 128th Security Forces Squadron, Wisconsin Air National Guard) held its first meeting on August 20, 2003.
The Cadet Unit elects its own officers, who officiate at meetings and are responsible for various activities that the unit participates in. Each fall, the unit has an open house where anyone interested in joining the post can come, although new members are welcome year round. For any young person interested in law enforcement, or not sure what they want to do, Public Safety Cadets is a great way to get a feel for police work.
