Ignition Interlock Device
Wisconsin courts are required to order an ignition interlock device (IID) to be installed on every vehicle owned by the offender for the first offense OWI with an alcohol concentration of 0.15 or higher, for all second or subsequent OWI offenses, and for chemical test refusals.

An ignition interlock device is a mechanism, like a breathalyzer, installed to a motor vehicle’s dashboard. Before the vehicle can be started, the driver must first exhale into the device. If the breath alcohol concentration analyzed is greater than .02% the device prevents the engine from starting.
